Pedestrian Safety: Drivers’ Stopping Behavior at Crosswalks

نویسندگان

چکیده

The safety of a pedestrian crossing may depend on infrastructure, vehicular and traffic characteristics. This academic research typically portrays the challenges knowingly caused by vehicles crosswalks in city Kigali. Through carefully observing stopping local drivers events, study aims to objectively evaluate drivers’ questionable behavior against flow parameters. Ten collection sites were ultimately selected purposefully randomly suit observations for data recording. A grand total 10,259 events properly recorded within 280 h. Statistical analyses, practical tests binary logistic regression models promptly used adequately specific behaviors. Woefully, 82.4% violate crosswalks, endangering pedestrians. Motorcyclists exhibit most aggressive behavior. Car are relatively less aggressive, whereby 60% managed brake events. Local buses authorized bicycles enthusiastically shared negligible collective percentage 2%, being not stopping. In general, cars 10.389 times more likely voluntarily justly stop compared bicycles. Maintaining row is safer cross, as each unit increase vehicle density scale, there 1.956 chances that every driver would stop. brief, 13% 21% variables positively predict considerable variance model.

Analysis of Pedestrian Clearance Time at Signalized Crosswalks in Japan

At signalized crosswalks, pedestrian clearance time is a key design parameter for ensuring safe pedestrian crossing. It is generally defined as the time required by pedestrians who enter crosswalks at the end of the green indication to complete crossing before conflicting vehicular traffic movements are released. In Japan, pedestrian green indications are followed by pedestrian flashing green (...

A microscopic simulation model for pedestrian-pedestrian and pedestrian-vehicle interactions at crosswalks

This study aims to develop a microscopic pedestrian behavior model considering various interactions on pedestrian dynamics at crosswalks. Particularly, we take into account the evasion behavior with counter-flow pedestrians, the following behavior with leader pedestrians, and the collision avoidance behavior with vehicles. Aerial video data at one intersection in Beijing, China are extracted fo...

Effect of a community-based pedestrian injury prevention program on driver yielding behavior at marked crosswalks.

BACKGROUND Few studies have comprehensively evaluated the effectiveness of multi-faceted interventions intended to improve pedestrian safety. "Watch for Me NC" is a multi-faceted, community-based pedestrian safety program that includes widespread media and public engagement in combination with enhanced law enforcement activities (i.e., police outreach and targeted pedestrian safety operations c...

Effects of pedestrian prompts on motorist yielding at crosswalks.

Pedestrian safety is a serious concern at busy intersections and pedestrian campuses across the nation. Although crosswalks and signs inform pedestrians where to cross, there is no standard protocol for pedestrians to signal drivers that they wish to use the crosswalks, except to stand in or at the crosswalk. We examined the effects of two pedestrian prompts, a raised hand and extended arm, on ...
